About Akaroa

Akaroa is a beautiful town of historic interest and charm nestled in a sheltered bay beside the harbour, surrounded by volcanic hills.

The French and British influence is still prevalent today; unique early history, a remarkable collection of historic 19th century  buildings, English rose gardens and French street names.

During the mid 18th Century, organised excursions to Akaroa and Bays from Christchurch were introduced, nothing has changed!  People from all over the world visit Akaroa to capture the amazing natural scenery and beauty; the oldest and best preserved colonial town on the South Island.

There are  many activities: harbour cruises, farm tours, swim with the dolphins, golf, fishing charters, wine tasting at local vineyards, and much more!
